Child support on €2,200 net a month: the end of the CAF top-up

Checked by Radif Partners · Editorial policy

On €2,200 net, support for an only child with standard visiting reaches €209 a month according to the Ministry of Justice table. It is the first income on our pages where support exceeds the family support allowance (€201) in the most common column; the exact line is €2,140. In practice a single receiving parent can no longer claim the top-up ASF, unless support goes unpaid, in which case the ASF is still paid as an advance. For two children, support is €178 per child, still under the ASF, so siblings keep the top-up. Official simulators give the same support figure as ours at this income, but only ours shows the effect on the ASF and on tax. The calculator below makes the comparison. Over a full year, the table means €2,508 for one child and €4,272 for two with standard visiting.

Above the line, the ASF only works as an advance

As long as support is paid, a single parent whose child receives €209 no longer gets the top-up ASF. If the paying parent stops paying, the full ASF of €201 per child is paid again as an advance while the CAF or ARIPA recovers the support. It then only covers part of the support owed, the rest being pursued from the paying parent.

One child, two children: where the line sits

For two children with standard visiting, per-child support only exceeds the ASF from €2,398 of income; for three, from €2,660. On €2,200 two siblings receive €356 of support, and a single parent can claim €46 of top-up ASF on top.

These are the Ministry of Justice table amounts; a judge can depart from them depending on the child’s needs and each parent’s costs. The full calculator adds the ASF and the tax effect for your exact situation.

Frequently asked questions

On €2,200 net, how much for one child?

€209 a month with standard visiting, €279 with reduced visiting and €139 with shared residence, according to the Ministry of Justice table. The calculation subtracts the subsistence amount of €652 and applies the column rate to the remaining €1,548. The judge can depart from it.

Why does a single parent lose the ASF once support passes €200?

Because the top-up ASF brings support up to €201 per child: above that there is nothing left to top up. The full ASF is still paid as an advance if the support that was set is not paid, and the CAF then recovers it from the other parent.

On €2,200, is support for two children above the ASF?

No: €178 per child with standard visiting, below the €201 ASF. A single parent can therefore claim the top-up ASF for each of the two children, about €23 per child per month, paid by the CAF every three months. Living as a couple ends it.
