Child support on €6,000 net a month: the table at higher incomes

Checked by Radif Partners · Editorial policy

On €6,000 net a month, the Ministry of Justice table gives €722 a month for one child with standard visiting, €1,230 for two and €1,604 for three. At this level a mathematical feature of the table shows: the fixed subsistence amount of €652 weighs less and less, so support as a share of total income gets closer and closer to the column rate. For one child with standard visiting it reaches 12.0 % of total income, against a rate of 13.5 %; on €1,500 it was only 7.6 %. Judges can still depart from the table for high incomes, depending on the child’s real needs and lifestyle. The calculator below gives the detail. Over a full year, the table means €8,664 for one child and €14,760 for two with standard visiting.

Why the share of income rises with income

The table applies a rate to income minus a fixed amount. That fixed amount is 43 % of a €1,500 income but only 11 % of a €6,000 income. Support as a share of total income therefore approaches the full rate as income rises. The table below shows it for one child with standard visiting.

High incomes: the child’s needs and lifestyle

The table has no ceiling, but a judge sets support according to the child’s needs, which do not grow forever with the parent’s income. The judge considers the lifestyle the child had before the separation, schooling and activities. For an adult child, the tax deduction is capped at €6,855 a year, well below table support at this income (€8,664 a year).

These are the Ministry of Justice table amounts; a judge can depart from them depending on the child’s needs and each parent’s costs. The full calculator adds the ASF and the tax effect for your exact situation.
