Family support allowance (ASF) in France 2026: amount, conditions and top-up
When support does not arrive, or is very low, France’s family benefits office can step in.

The family support allowance (allocation de soutien familial, ASF) is paid by the CAF, or the MSA for farming families, to a person raising a child alone who is deprived of one parent’s support. From 1 April 2026 it is €200.78 per month per child. It plays three roles. If no support has been set, or the other parent has stopped paying for at least a month, it is paid in full, as an advance when support exists. If support below €200.78 is paid, it tops it up: this is the top-up ASF, paid every three months provided the gap reaches €15. Example: a paying parent on €1,000 owes, under the table, €47 for one child; the top-up ASF adds €154 a month. You need to be covered by the French system and resident in France. Enter the support received to see your entitlement.

ASF by support received, per child
| Support received per child | ASF paid per child | Total received |
|---|---|---|
| €0 | €200.78 | €200.78 |
| €50 | €150.78 | €200.78 |
| €100 | €100.78 | €200.78 |
| €150 | €50.78 | €200.78 |
| €180 | €20.78 | €200.78 |
| €190 | €0.00 | €190.00 |
| €200 | €0.00 | €200.00 |
| €250 | €0.00 | €250.00 |
The €15 threshold explains the bottom rows: support of €190 leaves a gap below the threshold, so nothing is paid. Above €200.78 there is no ASF.
Paying parent’s income at which support exceeds the ASF
| Children | Reduced | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | €1,768 | €2,140 |
| 2 | €1,948 | €2,398 |
| 3 | €2,162 | €2,660 |
Below these incomes the table produces support lower than the ASF: a parent raising the child alone should claim the top-up ASF. The CAF and ARIPA guide explains the steps, and unpaid support the remedies.
