Child support on €2,500 net a month: the 30% band changes the cost

Checked by Radif Partners · Editorial policy

On €2,500 net a month, roughly €30,000 of annual taxable income, a paying parent who files alone moves into the 30 % income tax band. That tax detail changes the real cost of support. The Ministry of Justice table gives €249 a month for one child with standard visiting, €425 for two. Deducted from income, support for one child saves about €409 of tax over the year: its real cost falls to €2,584, or €215 a month. Above this income, part of each extra euro of support is funded by the tax not paid. That is a concrete point in any negotiation between parents. The calculator below shows the real cost. Over a full year, the table means €2,994 for one child and €5,100 for two with standard visiting.

Moving into the 30% band

The scale for 2025 income moves from 11% to 30% above €29,579 of taxable income per share. A single parent on €30,000 is just above it: deducted support comes off the 30% slice first, then the 11% slice. The higher the support, the more of it is deducted at 11%, so the average saving lands between the two rates.

Two children on €2,500

For two children with standard visiting, support reaches €425 a month, €5,100 a year. The estimated tax saving is about €641. The receiving parent declares €4,590 after the allowance. Each child’s support, €213, is still under the ASF, so a single parent can claim the top-up.

These are the Ministry of Justice table amounts; a judge can depart from them depending on the child’s needs and each parent’s costs. The full calculator adds the ASF and the tax effect for your exact situation.

Frequently asked questions

How much support for one child on a €2,500 salary?

The Ministry of Justice table gives €249 a month with standard visiting, €333 with reduced visiting and €166 with shared residence. The calculation starts from €2,500 minus the €652 subsistence amount, €1,848, multiplied by the column’s rate. The judge can still adjust the result to the child’s needs.

What is the deduction worth on €2,500 net?

About €409 a year for one child with standard visiting, assuming one tax share, around €30,000 of taxable income and no décote. The real cost of support is then €2,584 over the year instead of €2,994. With shared residence there is no deduction.

On €2,500, is shared residence cheaper?

Residence is decided in the child’s interest, not on cost. In figures, the table gives €166 with shared residence against €249 with standard visiting, but the parent then pays half of the child’s day-to-day costs directly and loses the tax deduction. The real gap is much smaller than it looks.
